Pragmatic Play are a game developer who’ve achieved pretty phenomenal success over the past 2-3 years, and a few months ago they made the ambitious decision to purchase a license from Big Time Gaming to be able to use the famed “Megaways” mechanic in their games.

We’ve already seen a few of Pragmatic’s games using the Megaways mechanic – and Curse of the Werewolf Megaways is their latest slot to utilise the unique game engine.

Curse of the Werewolf Megaways is a 6-reel slot with every reel able to display between two and six symbols; this means there’s a maximum of 46,656-ways-to-win possible on every spin. The slot is incredibly volatile and carries an RTP of 96.5%. It can be played from as little as 10p per spin and as much as £100 – casino-dependant, of course.

To give you an idea of what the game’s like we’ve put together this detailed Curse of the Werewolf Megaways slot review. In it, we’re going to look at “all the game has to offer”, and we’ll kick things off with a look at the theming of the game and a closer look at the game’s symbols and payouts.

Curse of the Werewolf Megaways Slot

Curse of the Werewolf Megaways Slot Theme, Design, and Layout

Curse of the Werewolf Megaways slot is based around the ancient belief in lycanthrophy – known more commonly as the ability for man to transform himself into a werewolf. Intertwined with some European folklore, it’s not hard to see why Pragmatic Play are proud of Curse of the Werewolf Megaways; the game looks great, the visuals are superb and it’s something a bit different than what we’re used to seeing game developers pushing out today.

As with all Pragmatic slots, selecting your bet size, kicking off the “autoplay” feature and enabling/disabling quickspin is all done through one central control panel. If you want, you can also bring up the game’s pay table at the press of a button, and detailed game rules can also be found for those wanting to get into the “nitty gritty” of the slot.

There’s a total of 10 regular paying symbols in Curse of the Werewolf Megaways and these include playing card values as the lower-paying symbols; you’ll find 10, Jack, Queen, King and Ace present on the reels. To form a win with the lower-paying symbols you’ll need to match 3-of-a-kind, 4-of-a-kind or 5-of-a-kind combos.

The higher-paying symbols include a selection of theme-specific characters, including Villagers, a Human and a Wolf. These pay up to 10X your stake for matching a 5-of-a-kind combo.

Special Symbols, Bonus Features, and Gameplay

There’s also a wild symbol which takes the form of a slashed piece of parchment. The wild symbol only appears on reels 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 and substitutes for all other symbols (bar the scatter symbols).

Finally you’ll find the special mystery symbol – this takes the form of a wolf howling at a moon, and when three or more of these land, a mini-feature is triggered. We’ll talk more about this later in this review. The final symbols to look out for are the scatter symbols, which are depicted by moons.

Curse of the Werewolf Megaways Bonus Features

The first bonus – while more of a reel modifier – is the mystery symbol transformation feature, something we’ve seen in a number of successful Megaways slots. When three or more of the mystery symbols land in view they will all transform into the same symbol – so if you can line them up all the way across you’re guaranteed at least one 5-of-a-kind combo.

There’s also two random features to be aware of; first, the Super Spin feature which increases the number of premium symbols on the reels and secondly the Win Spin feature, which awards a re-spin and guarantees a win.

The main bonus round is the Free Spins feature, and this is triggered by landing 3, 4, 5 or 6 of the scatter symbols anywhere in view. Do so and you’ll be awarded 8, 10, 12 or 15 free spins respectively.

During the free-spins, a progressive multiplier is in play – any win increases the win multiplier by 1X – and there’s no upper limit on how high this payment method can grow. You’ll also notice that a special new Golden Wolf symbol is added to the reels.

When this lands, it will remove anywhere from 1 to 5 ‘lives’ from the high-paying symbols – and this symbol is then replaced by the top-paying Wolf symbol. Each time this happens you’ll also be awarded one additional free spin.

Conclusion

Curse of the Werewolf Megaways slot isn’t the most innovative slot ever made – but for Megaways fans or Pragmatic loyalists it’s likely to be a hit, and with up to 40,000X your stake available to be won on every spin there’s some significant win-potential to be found!

If you love the theme, don’t miss out the Blood Moon Wilds slot from Yggdrasil or Mystery Museum slot from Push Gaming.
